Responsible & Ethical Use of AI

Participatory AI Adoption

Your thought prompts, Litzy:

 1. When you think about "governance grounded in evidence" as it pertains to AI projects, what does this look like when it's done properly?  What does it look like when it's rushed or hurried? Why is it important to get AI governance right, including from a GEDI lens?

2. In your experience, what are some potential consequences that may result from uneven representation of some communities in data collected by government for policy-planning purposes?

Can you point to some examples of where earlier application of a data equity lens on information used by governments for development-related planning would have avoided subsequent issues or difficulties?

3. In the context of the international work that you've undertaken to date, and your study, observations and discussions with colleagues - when it comes to responsible adoption of AI in international development work, what are some current best practices that you have observed? How easy replicable or transferrable do you think these would be?

4. What is the role of cultural judgement, properly understood, in the ethical application of AI to development projects?

5. Will the rise of AI tools in development work speed up the delivery of development projects over the long term?

Or is that too simplistic a perspective - do you see some ways that over reliance on AI systems could hinder development projects from staying on schedule, or achieved GEDI related goals? Can you illustrate these with some personal stories/observations?
